Are the Gospels too similar?
The Gospels are a record of what Jesus did and taught. We should expect things that are the same and similar. There is even great similarity in the very words that are used. So are the Gospels too similar to be independent witnesses to the life and teaching of Jesus?
Dr Jongkind examines the New Testament epistles and Gospels and concludes that similarity emerged from both the shared oral tradition that was handed down and later evangelists knowing the work of an earlier evangelist. Importantly, irrespectively of how the evangelists wrote their Gospel, the links from the written text to the actual events are quite direct. Dr Jongkind concludes that each Gospel gives us independent and reliable access to what happened.
