Some of the names in Scripture are very familiar to us and we don’t think twice about them. Some mean little more to us than places where we stumble with pronunciation. There are many genealogies in the Bible – some are very short but others are long and we can find ourselves wondering why we need them. So what’s going on with names? How does the Bible’s interest in names compare to other cultures in the ancient Near East? Why are people given the names they have? Why do some people in the Bible have more than one name? We’re digging into all these questions and more over the next seven episodes.
