Josh Meynell
Research Assistant in Old Testament Studies at Tyndale House
Josh Meynell joins the Old Testament project with skills in the Akkadian, Egyptian, Hebrew, and Arabic languages. He first came to Cambridge to study Archaeology, and quickly found that digging through texts was much more interesting than digging through soil. Effectively turning his degree into Egyptology and Assyriology, his dissertation compared Egyptian and Akkadian worship of the sun god. He picked up Hebrew and Greek along the way, seeing ancient language learning as something of a hobby.
After three years of full-time student and youth ministry, two of which were spent working closely with a Palestinian Arabic speaking church (where Josh also learned spoken Arabic), Josh is returning to the academic world. His contribution to the Old Testament team is the organisation of the corpus of Hebrew names from the Hebrew Bible and other epigraphic sources. He sees his time at Tyndale as an exciting opportunity to be a part of an important project while also discerning a path for his future, be it in academia or elsewhere.
