Ben Rae is a PhD candidate in Old Testament at the University of Cambridge’s Faculty of Divinity, working under Prof. Katharine Dell. His PhD research is focussed on reading Ecclesiastes as a narrative text and how that opens up new interpretive possibilities. His research uses narratology and reader-oriented approaches to explore how the Biblical text and the reader work together to establish meaning.
He holds a BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Western Australia, as well as an MDiv and an MTh from Trinity Theological College in Perth, Western Australia. After graduating from his undergraduate degree he worked as a research scientist but for the 13 years before coming to Cambridge he worked for the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students as the campus director at the University of Western Australia. He is married with two daughters and is a keen (though not very accomplished) rower and cricketer. He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature.
