Dr Rachel Johnson receives Neuhouser Award

In August, after four years of dedicated work, Dr Rachel Johnson retired from her post as Assistant Librarian of Tyndale House Library.

Rachel previously held the post of Research Librarian at the University of Worcester, having worked in several university libraries, including at the University of Warwick and at Bishop Grosseteste College (now University) in Lincoln. In Worcester, Rachel was also involved in establishing a major project called The Hive, the only joint university and public library in the UK.

In 2002, Rachel helped to set up and catalogue the Brown Collection at Taylor University, comprising works by five authors from the influential “Inklings” literary group that was formed at Oxford University in the 1930s. Rachel has also undertaken extensive research work in children’s literature and is the author of A Complete Identity: The Youthful Hero in the Work of G. A. Henty and George MacDonald (2014), recently receiving the Neuhouser Award for Distinguished Scholarship and Service, presented by the Center for the Study of C.S. Lewis & Friends at Taylor University, Indiana.

The Neuhouser Award is a new award named for Professor David Neuhouser who died in 2015. Receiving this award was a particularly significant privilege for Rachel as David was a much-loved and missed friend.

In her retirement, Rachel will continue as a volunteer in the Tyndale House Library, working alongside Deputy Librarian Kate Arhel.
