Issue 10
Magazine
19th August 2021
It may be a bit too close to Christmas to tell you this, but the birth of Jesus probably didn’t take place in a lowly cattle shed.
While we’re not saying you need to start shredding your Christmas cards, we do think it’s worth taking a second look at the story. In this issue of Ink, Dr Ian Paul does just that as he takes us through the traditional readings, cultural context and phrasing of the nativity accounts.
Also in this issue, two academics share some of their current research. Dr Elizabeth Shively speaks to Beth Vickers about her career researching the Gospel of Mark, and Dr Mark Sneed explores the history of the biblical monster you’ve probably always wondered about: the Leviathan.
In Artefact in Focus, Dr Kim Phillips introduces the Rekhmire Tomb Scenes and explains how they bring Bible history to life in vivid colour. Dr Peter J Williams also looks at the work of a skilled craftsman; inviting us to take a closer look at the storytelling techniques behind the parables we know so well.
Thanks for supporting Ink over the ten issues we’ve produced since we started in 2018. We’re looking forward to sharing more insights from the world of biblical studies with you in the future. We’ll see you in summer 2022 for our next big print copy and you can sign up for a more regular digital version at tyndalehouse.com/subscribe.
