Tyndale Fellowship Spotlight: Old Testament Study Group
5th March 2021
The Tyndale Fellowship Conference 2021 will take place this summer, from Monday 21 June to Friday 2 July. This annual conference brings together six discipline-based study groups over two weeks for lectures and discussion on the latest scholarly developments. This year, due to constraints on international travel, the conference will take place online.
The Old Testament Study Group will run from Monday 28 to Wednesday 30 June, entitled Hope for the World in the Old Testament: A Symposium in honour of Prof. J. Gordon McConville's 70th birthday.
This theme was proposed by Dr Alison Lo and Dr Jamie Grant, who are editing, along with Dr David Firth, a festschrift honouring Professor McConville on his 70th birthday. In addition to his substantial contributions to the field of Old Testament scholarship through his writings, Professor McConville has had an enormous impact through the countless evangelical scholars he has inspired. The Tyndale Fellowship is delighted that so many eminent scholars from around the world will be presenting at this year's study group, a testament to Professor McConville’s ministry.
Dr Brittany Melton, Chair of the Old Testament Study Group, explains that this year’s theme of “hope in the Old Testament” echoes Professor McConville’s long-term interest in the life-giving aspects of the Hebrew Bible.
There will be sessions that focus on the Pentateuch, the Psalms and the Writings, and the Major and Minor Prophets, as well as others that consider larger themes of hope running throughout the whole Old Testament. With presenters from Australia, Sweden, the United States, Singapore and Israel, as well as the UK, delegates will benefit from a truly global perspective.
Professor McConville’s Old Testament Tyndale Lecture, The Exaltation of the Servant and the ‘Startling’ of the Nations, is one of six plenary talks for the Tyndale Fellowship Conference that are free for anyone to attend.
